Extraordinary Girl Blog Tour Day 2

Hi and welcome to Day Two of the Extraordinary Girl Blog tour (hosted by the awesome Deb of Sprouting Jube Jube)

Let's start with stating that I love these patterns... Both the women's and girl's version of the Filles a Maman Extraordinary Girl are fantastic, and I am happy to be part of the tour to show you ours!
Connor on the other hand is mad that I didn't make him one as well...
For this round I left the pockets off, at the decision of the boss (Inara).  She also chose the fabrics.. The main print is a rayon blend knit.  The red is a really soft modal, and the green is an interlock - which works out well for a collar that doesn't stretch too much when putting the shirt on and off.

This is what happens when Inara chooses the poses
The women's version runs from sizes XS - XXL and the fit is spot on with the size chart.
The girl's version runs from 12mo - 14.

Both are made for knits, have a light high-low hemline, boat neck, optional pocket, and 3/4 or long sleeves.

It was such a gorgeous day for pictures too!
I made the 3/4 sleeves for myself and the long sleeves for Miss. It's 50 degrees and won't wear her coat on the playground and complains that it's cold... (aka Inara).  I love how the neckline lets my tattoo peak out, without being so wide that my bra straps would show.

And the un-cropped version... Connor is not amused!

Now, the fabric I used was a bit too floral for Connor... BUT I have actually made this pattern for him too.  To make it slightly more boyish in style, I made the bottom hemline straight across instead of high-low.

And don't mind her mis-matching here... but Connor took this one, so I had to show it!  He did great!

Mommy and Me for Mother's Day (courtesy of Love Notions Sewing Patterns)

Mother's Day is fast approaching.  Judging by the state of the house and the fact that my children seem to have lost their marbles this week, I am simply hoping to make it to Mother's Day.  For the rest of you, though, I wanted to show off my super fun Mommy and Me combo and excite you with an awesome giveaway.

Love Notions Sewing Patterns is a pretty new designer who has tons of yummy knit sewing experience.  The owner is a well known and respected WAHM who has (much do my delight) ventured into making some of her custom designs into patterns.  Her first pattern was the Everyday Play Dress, which Inara grabs out of the drawer whenever it's clean.

After that came the Girls' Trendy Tunic, which I was so excited to get to test.  And I even used the rest of my super awesome Unicorns In The Rain fabric (from Bamboo, Hemp, and Reprints) for it.  The pattern itself is really easy to follow, the sizing is perfect, and we all know how important pockets are, right?

It was a rainy week... do you like our impromptu photo studio?  (This was before I claimed the hall and repainted it).  It's meant to be tunic length, but Inara is a little small for her age, so it worked out nicely a shorter dress.  She still sticks shorts on under it, because she is for some reason always standing on her head, but the awesome part is that we will get tons of wear time out of this.

During the testing we did a lot of begging/hinting/whining for the pattern to be available in women's sizes.  Tami listened and came out with the Ladies' Trendy Tunic... (my first one was a little big - I kind of forgot that I lost some weight and did a size bigger than I needed...)
I really need to be less camera awkward....
And here is where my inspiration for this post came from... As I was standing in the hallway, awkwardly attempting to pose/look natural/will myself skinnier... Inara goes "MOM! I have that! In me sized!" and ran off to her room.  She came back out a couple minutes later and jumped into the pictures... She did fantastic, didn't she?

I totally loved the first one, but I wanted one that was slightly better fitting, so I decided to not be dope, and actually go off the measurements on the size chart.  The bust measurement is most important with this pattern, since it flares slightly.  Here is my second one, in the correct size (AND in my fabulous Dr. Who knit)

The Girls' Trendy Tunic is available in sizes 2 to 14
The Ladies' Trendy Tunic is available in sizes XS to XXL
Or you can save and grab the Bundle of both patterns
Pattern uses knit fabrics - (recommend 4-way stretch for the side panels) and you'll need a small piece of c/l or ribbing for the neckline of the ladies' (the girls' neckline is done with a really nice facing.

Difficulty Level: Intermediate (adventurous beginners can take a deep breath, take it slow through the pockets, and watch the awesome video tutorial and you'll be just fine!)

Sewing time: We all know I'm not fast, nor do I sew uninterrupted, but I'd say either one takes about 90min-2hrs.

**The code "tunic" is still good on Etsy for 15% off your trendy tunic or bundle!

Now, this is the SUPER FUN part of the post.  Because Sunday is Mother's Day and every mommy deserves a great pattern to sew for herself.  And because I know you will all want to make this for your little ones too... Tami is letting me give away a bundle... so enter the giveaway to get a free copy of both the Girls' and Ladies' Trendy Tunics.  Winner will be announced Sunday.  Happy Mother's Day everyone!

EYMM Mommy and Me Blog Tour

I was very excited to be selected to participate in this tour.  I *think* I may have a little bit of dorky mom in me, because as soon as I read the title I was imagining matchy-matchy outfits for Inara and I.    But I managed to talk myself out of that pretty quickly, mostly because I could feel Inara's eyes rolling just at me telling her my idea.  <Disclaimer: I will be reimbursed for the purchased pattern as part of this blog tour, but all opinions are my own!>

So we sat down and flipped through the Everything Your Mama Made & More patterns that I already owned (which is nearly all of them, lol).  And on our flipping we saw Riley's Nightgown and Sleepshirt.  In her intro email, Kymy brought this pattern up as a way to involve your little man, and I thought, how cute would it be if we all had them??
The details:
Riley's sizes NB - 18yrs  and Callie's sizes XS - 5X
Gown or sleep shirt length
long or short sleeve options
Available for purchase individually or as a bundle

Sewing time:  approximately 45minutes.  The longest part is finishing the bottom facings.

So first came Connor...  He got this cool knit print that I picked up in a destash group months ago, paired with a kelly green cotton-lycra blend for the sleeves and binding.

I said "pose like your sister," and this is what I got...
He loves it, but then again, most of his jammies consist of t-shirts that are too big that come down to his knees anyways.  And I have to say that nightshirts are perfect for late night diaper changes - no pants to mess with getting off and on!  The length is perfect on him.  He's nearly 22 months, but small for his age, and is a RTW 18mo.  I did the 18-24mo on him, and its perfect.

Then came Inara.  She picked this bath diva print and paired it with what was left of the pink/yellow/white bubble print that we picked up in the red tag section at Joann's a while ago (*Note to self: look for more of this before Daffodil Dash ends*)  I did the size 6 on her, so she would have a little growing room, but did the nightshirt length as well.

Best. Pose. Ever.
So now they're both happy with their night shirts.  Like really happy.

Jump on the bed happy.
We don't usually do photo shoots all over the house, so they were having a ball.  And on to me... (I still hate being in front of the camera.)  I picked up the Callie's Nightgown and Nightshirt to sew for myself.  I did a size bigger than my measurements called for, and here's why.  Little man still breastfeeds.  Mostly at night, and a nightgown that I can easily feed him in, without falling out of all night (I know, I know, TMI, but really, who designs nursing nightgowns??)  In retrospect, I could probably have just sized up the neckhole, but since I chose an interlock print for mine (pink guitars from the group Fabric Dealers on Facebook), I wanted to make sure I had all the stretch I needed.  The sleeves are from a solid pink interlock and the neck binding is a ribbing that I have no idea where it came from... (sign of a recovering Fabricholic).

I did the nightshirt length on mine as well.  Apparently we are a nightshirt kind of family around here.  The pattern is really easy to follow, with clear and simple instructions.  Which is true of all of Kymy's patterns.  The fit is great as well, just go with the measurement she says is most important and you can't go wrong.

That mirror smudge is making me really embarrassed.
So dorky or not, we all took our photos, brushed our teeth, read a story, and went to bed in our matching nightshirts.  AND if you want to be cool (dorky)  and extremely comfortable, like us, you can pick up the Riley and Callie's Sleepwear bundle and save 15% off what it would be to get them individually.

The majority of our photos look like this...
I also highly recommend joining the Everything Your Mama Made and More Facebook Group in case you have any questions or want to keep up with what's going on with EYMM.

Thanks for stopping by!  And please check out the rest of the tour!
